"As expected, the Jets confirmed Monday they will release veteran running back Thomas Jones on Friday, enabling him to become a free agent. Jones, who will turn 32 in August, had career highs in carries (331) and rushing yards (1,402) for the Jets last season, his third year with the club. The Jets wanted Jones to take a pay cut, but he would not rework his contract.
General manager Mike Tannenbaum said in a statement; "We have informed Thomas Jones and his representatives that we will release him on March 5. Thomas joined us three years ago and has been a productive, passionate leader both on and off the field who has served as a positive influence for our younger players. We were fortunate to acquire Thomas and wish him the best.""
