"Jose Valverde strikes again.
For the second straight night, the Tigers closer struck out Derek Jeter in the ninth inning with a close game on the line.
This time, the Yankees captain made the final out of Game 3, striking out swinging with two men on base and giving the Tigers a 5-4 win and a chance to close out the series tonight in Game 4 at Comerica Park.
"[Valverde] made some good pitches," Jeter said. "He threw a fastball at the top of the zone, probably a little too close to take."
Jeter also struck out against Valverde with a man on for the second out of the ninth inning in Sunday's 5-3 loss in The Bronx. The Yankees had rallied from a 5-1 deficit with two runs off Valverde before the closer clamped down."
