"Former Tennessee Titans coach Jeff Fisher told ESPN on Friday that he is considering coaching only two teams — the Dolphins and St. Louis Rams — and will make a decision next week. Fisher declined to comment further.
The Dolphins are optimistic — but hardly certain — about their chances, according to two people in contact with team management.
But Howard Balzer of 101ESPN radio in St. Louis reported Friday-citing sources-that Fisher is "on the verge" of chosing St. Louis, but "his decision is not final."
Meanwhile, Miami is meeting with Packers offensive coordinator Joe Philbin over Friday and Saturday while awaiting word from Fisher. The Dolphins are expected to speak to additional candidates if Fisher turns down their offer.
Per league rules, an assistant coach whose team is in the playoffs, such as Philbin, is not permitted to accept an NFL head coaching job until his team's season is over."
