Jeff Fisher leaves door ajar for Keith Bulluck to return to Titans

"Keith Bulluck is out of sight, but Coach Jeff Fisher said the longtime Titans linebacker isn't out of mind.

Bulluck, a free agent, continues to rehab from ACL surgery. And while the Titans made roster adjustments to suggest they are moving on without the 10-year pro, Fisher hasn't shut the door.

"We'd love to see if there is an opportunity where Keith would be able to finish his career here,'' the coach said Tuesday. "But it is very complicated, as you know. You have an unrestricted free agent and you have an ACL rehab.

"He is not ready to play now and he is not ready to pass a physical. When that time comes we'll deal with it. I am going to make an assumption that he is going to recover 100 percent and be able to play again at the same level he was playing when the injury occurred.''

Bulluck had 127 consecutive starts at the time.

"Hypothetically, if Keith was fine for the start of training camp and able and to play in the preseason games and is 100 percent and we were able to get him under contract, he's a starter, yeah,'' Fisher said. "That is the best-case scenario, but it's not going to be a realistic scenario just from the timing standpoint as you deal with the ACL."

In 11-on-11 drills on Tuesday, linebackers Gerald McRath and Will Witherspoon started on the outside and Colin Allred was in the middle.

Thornton update: Veteran linebacker David Thornton, coming off shoulder/pectoral surgery and dealing with a hip injury, has yet to practice this offseason.

"We are hoping David will be back and ready to go and be able to compete,'' Fisher said. "But he is still a ways away now. Right now he's not able to practice, so no, he's not (a starter)."

Thornton's injury history is a "legitimate concern,'' Fisher said.

"Sometimes guys will have a couple years where they have issues and then can put it behind them and can play a number of more years," he said. "It's not going to be because David didn't work at it. David is a hard worker and he wants to play, and he is working to get back on the field.""
