Jayson Werth wore a bulky walking boot on his sore right ankle as he walked out of AT&T Park on Monday night and will receive an MRI exam on Tuesday. But Werth described the exam as "totally precautionary" and has not even ruled out playing Tuesday night.

The Nationals scratched Werth about 45 minutes before first pitch Monday night with tenderness in his right ankle. The ailment has hindered Werth for years, typically springing up during spring training. For Werth, who returned Aug. 2 after he missed three months with a broken wrist, the season feels like spring training to his body.
