So the San Antonio Spurs reeled in noted Mavericks' nemesis Stephen Jackson at the trade deadline Thursday.

Nobody was saying it was a move aimed at giving the Spurs a competitor with years of experience guarding Dirk Nowitzki -- most notably in the 2007 first-round playoffs when the Jackson-led Golden State Warriors pulled off the epic upset of the top-seeded Mavericks.

But it sure bears a striking resemblance to an acquisition that will have that sort of desired impact for the Spurs.

The Mavericks are trying not to pay much attention to it. Mostly, they saw it as a smart move by a smart team. The fact that it's their chief rival in the Western Conference has nothing to do with it.
