When Jason Kidd returns to the lineup – he sat out Wednesday night's game against the Magic with a sore lower back – Knicks coach Mike Woodson knows he needs to be delicate in the deployment of his 39-year-old point guard.

"The idea was to play him between 20 and 25 minutes a game," Woodson said before Wednesday's game at Madison Square Garden. "Then there would be some nights where he's the guy where we play him down the stretch and he might sneak up to 30.

"But we went through a stretch where … all the time that Raymond [Felton] was out, [Kidd] was probably averaging 30 minutes a ballgame, which is a bit much."

As of tipoff Wednesday night, Kidd had not spoken to reporters since Saturday morning, hours before the team's 97-80 loss to the 76ers. He played just five minutes against Philadelphia.
