Jason Bay delivers RBI single in 10th as Mets come back against Mariano Rivera

"For two entire games and more than eight innings of the third, everything in this installment of the Subway Series had gone against the Mets. From the scores to Saturday's injury to Jose Reyes to Sunday's injury to starter R.A. Dickey, the Mets had endured an avalanche of misfortune.

But in what is becoming a theme for their season, the Mets rose up when they seemed down for the count.

The Mets touched Yankees closer Mariano Rivera for the game-tying run in the last of the ninth and then got a walk-off single from Jason Bay in the 10th to emerge with a 3-2 victory over their cross-town rivals before 45,153 at soggy Citi Field, where the teams endured an 89-minute rain delay and played through occasional showers.

The Yankees may have affirmed their dominance of New York by taking two of three in this set and four of six overall, but the Mets also affirmed they can never be counted out.

"They took a body blow yesterday with Jose and today with R.A. ... and they just come and play," Terry Collins said. "They take blows and they bounce back. ... They just don't let stuff get to them."

In the wake of their win, there was more good news. Reyes' hamstring has only a Grade 1 strain and he could play during the series against the Dodgers that begins Monday night. And the tightness Dickey felt in his left glute after slipping on the wet mound and being forced from a 1-1 game after five innings likely won't cost him a turn in the rotation."
