Jason Babin exploring all of his options

"All Jason Babin ever wanted to be while growing up in Paw Paw was a member of the Navy Seals. He developed asthma at an early age, putting an end to that dream.

Now, Babin just wants to know who he will be playing football for this season … if there even is one.

Babin, 31, is coming off a Pro Bowl season as a high-energy, 6-foot-3, 260-pound defensive end where he earned a career-high 12.5 sacks for the Tennessee Titans. He replaced Kyle VandenBosch, who moved on to the Lions.

Babin finished sixth in the NFL in sacks, second-best among defensive ends, and should be up for a big pay day. He was ranked 85th-best player in the league by his peers. It was his lone season with the Titans, but the sacks were more than he had combined in his previous four years with four teams. He is now a free agent.

Babin, who played for Western Michigan, was a first-round draft pick of the Houston Texans in the 2004 NFL Draft (No. 27 overall). After playing defensive end in college, he was moved to outside linebacker with the Texans and had less success in his three years in Houston. He moved on to Seattle, Kansas City and Philadelphia, but failed to get the playing time he was looking for.

Everything clicked for Babin with the Titans after he signed a one-year, $1 million contract. Defensive line coach Jim Washburn made him an edge rusher and he delivered.

"All I wanted was an opportunity to play and when I looked into Coach Washburn's eyes and shook his hand I could tell he was passionate as I was and I'd get that chance," Babin said. "I'm aggressive, passionate and relentless when I play. You're not going to win every play, but I'm sure going to try and win every play."

Babin was with the Eagles in 2009. He had an outstanding preseason — three sacks — but didn't dress for the season opener. He had 2 1/2 sacks during the first half of the season, but his playing time was cut in the second half and he failed to record another sack."
