The Belgian international was known to dislike axed boss Tim Sherwood and was certain to quit White Hart Lane this summer had he remained at the helm.

However, following Sherwood’s sacking earlier this week, Vertonghen is reportedly prepared to rethink his future and wait until the new manager is announced to make his final decision.

After a fine debut season for Spurs, the 27-year-old’s form this year has been patchy and if the right offer comes in, they may not put up too much of a fight.

Vertonghen still has two years remaining on his contract and has not concealed his desire to play Champions League football – something he has so far been able to achieve in north London.
