Jamie McGinn scored with 2:28 remaining in overtime Saturday night to give the Avalanche another stunning victory on the road, this one a 1-0 triumph over the Los Angeles Kings at the Staples Center.

The Avs, who improved to 17-5, began their two-game trip by beating similarly mighty Phoenix 4-3 in OT on Thursday.

McGinn' s one-timer came off John Mitchell's pass in front of goalie Ben Scrivens, who deserved to be the game's No. 2 star in front of a sellout crowd of 18,118.

The Avs have struggled against the Kings in L.A., going 1-6-1 in their past eight games. But this is a different Colorado team and it showed in the second period on.

The Avs had their way with the Kings in every way but the scoreboard, outshooting them 12-3 at one point in the second.

The Mitchell-centered third line was especially active in front of Scrivens until Mitchell took a double-minor for high-sticking Kings defenseman Willie Mitchell in the last minute of the period.

The Avs' Mitchell checked the Kings' Mitchell against the dasher boards but John's stick was high and it came down on Willie's face, drawing blood.
