"is no different than the average Thunder fan who watched Oklahoma City's five games in the Orlando Pro Summer league. The Thunder coach became smitten at the poise and control with which No. 3 overall pick James Harden played.
It wasn't Harden's seemingly effortless scoring ability, or his perceptive play-making skills, or even his all-out hustle that stood out most for Brooks. What left a lasting impression in Brooks' mind was how the former Arizona State shooting guard knew where to be on floor at all times, how he never got rattled and how he made his opponent play at his pace."He really has a great control to his game while he's on the floor," Brooks said. "He plays like he's been doing this in this league for a while now, and that's a good sign for a young kid to have a lot of composure."Harden, who doesn't turn 20 until Aug. 26, walked out of Orlando after establishing himself as perhaps the best rookie in the league. His 14.8-point scoring average trailed only Tyler Hansbrough's 18.2-point average among rookies.Brooks and Thunder management are now looking for Harden to carry over that same success in the NBA Summer League, which begins for Oklahoma City at 7 tonight in Las Vegas against Memphis."I want him to continue to improve and continue to grow in the time that we have," Brooks said. "It's important going into the rest of the summer. We want to see what he needs to work on. We want to see what he does well. And there are a lot of positives in his game, and I think he has to continue to excel in those areas of playmaking, making shots and defensively just getting after it and creating defensive opportunities for us to score."Harden displayed a high level of efficiency in Orlando, even while showing off his versatility in playing and guarding both the point guard and shooting guard positions. He connected on 53.1 percent of his shots from the field, including 42.8 percent from 3-point range and 78.2 percent from the foul line.Harden also averaged 3.6 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.8 steals and committed just 2.4 turnovers while playing 28 minutes per game. But Brooks also came away from Orlando with a newfound respect for Harden's defense, a skill critics questioned when analyzing Harden in college."
