Jameer Nelson embraces Gilbert Arenas trade

"Aboard since the Dwight Howard era began in Orlando six years ago, point guard Jameer Nelson conceded he was a bit shaken by the two blockbuster trades the Magic made Saturday.

"It was kind of like the first time something that big has happened with me here," Nelson said. "It's a business, but it's still tough after you've played with guys for a while."

Orlando acquired former Magic forward Hedo Turkoglu, guard-forward Jason Richardson and forward Earl Clark in a deal with the Phoenix Suns for guard Vince Carter, guard-forward Mickael Pietrus and center Marcin Gortat.

Losing Rashard Lewis — dealt to Washington for Gilbert Arenas — hit Nelson particularly hard. "Rashard, he's a good friend. He'll always be a friend," Nelson said. "We just have to move on."

Nelson said he doesn't expect to have any problems sharing the ball with the new players, particularly Arenas.

Magic coach Stan Van Gundy ended --- at least for the moment --- any talk of a point-guard controversy.

He was emphatic in saying that Nelson will remain the starter at point guard, a position that Arenas mostly played until the Wizards drafted John Wall in June.

That would leave Arenas to either come off the bench or start at shooting guard over Richardson.

Van Gundy also said that Arenas is most effective with the ball in his hands."
