Jaguars Notebook: Players select six team captains

"Jaguars players selected six team captains on Monday, two from each phase of the game. Running back Maurice Jones-Drew and tight end Marcedes Lewis are the offensive captains, defensive end Aaron Kampman and linebacker Daryl Smith are the defensive captains and fullback Montell Owens and receiver Kassim Osgood are the special teams captains.

Owens, Jones-Drew, quarterback David Garrard, defensive end Reggie Hayward and cornerback Rashean Mathis were captains in 2009. The Jaguars did not select team captains last season.

Smith was also selected captain in 2008.

Britton's back

After missing every preseason game following a back procedure to repair a herniated disc, Jaguars right tackle Eben Britton returned to practice Monday, helmet in hand.

He didn't get into many team drills, but Britton felt good getting individual repetitions.

"The doctor I went to see who did my procedure was with this you've got to work it," Britton said. "The worst thing you can do is sit around and wait on it. That's good. Yeah nerves are just crazy parts of our body. From what I'm continuously gathering, the nervous system is kind of one of those parts of our body that nobody really knows about yet and every individual's completely different.""
