Jaguars have struggled to defend pass, Colts receiver Reggie Wayne

"The players in the Jaguars' secondary won't need numbers on their uniforms Sunday.

A bull's-eye would be more appropriate.

The secondary, ranked 28th in passing yardage allowed, has been a target much of the year. Now it must go up against Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning in the Jaguars' most important game of the season. With a win, Jacksonville will clinch its first division title since 1999.

The Jaguars won the first matchup against the Colts this season, 31-28, on Josh Scobee's 59-yard field goal. But Manning torched their secondary by throwing for 352 yards and two touchdowns. His favorite receiver, Reggie Wayne, caught 15 passes for 196 yards.

Wayne has a history of putting up big numbers against the Jaguars. He has more than 100 receiving yards in the past four games and seven of the past eight against the Jaguars.

On Oct. 3, Wayne victimized David Jones, who was playing at right corner because Derek Cox was benched for three games after struggling in the season opener.

Cox got the job back the following week. He has rebounded and leads the team in interceptions with three — two against the Tennessee Titans two weeks ago — but he struggled against the Oakland Raiders last week.

Among other things, he took his eye off Oakland receiver Louis Murphy in the back of the end zone. That gave Murphy a chance to separate and catch an eight-yard touchdown pass late in the second quarter on a third-and-7 play.

Cox, who is very analytical, is the first to admit he made a mistake on the play.

"I would have made the play by remaining true to the way I had been playing it throughout practice," he said. "I was trying to do too much. I had good coverage on him initially, and [I thought] the ball is coming this way and I can make an interception. There's no room for error in the red zone.""
