Jaguars' Eugene Monroe, Eben Britton tackle the criticism

"When Jaguars general manager Gene Smith selected offensive tackles Eugene Monroe and Eben Britton with the first two draft picks in 2009, the plan was they would be the team's bookend tackles for the next decade.

They got off to a fast start and became the first pair of rookie tackles to start an NFL opener since 1982.

But they've yet to reach the elite status as they enter their third season, which is often a critical year for young players. They will be under the microscope as they attempt to live up to the potential they had coming out of college.

If the Jaguars are to be the offensive team they want to be this year and take more deep shots, they need solid play from both tackles to give quarterback David Garrard time to throw.

Monroe started in 28 of 30 games in his first two seasons, but gave up 6 1/2 sacks last season and had some problems in the final preseason game against the St. Louis Rams as Garrard absorbed some hard hits."
