"Brandon Jacobs had more to say, but he showed restraint and didn't say it. Jacobs, who grew up in Louisiana a huge fan of the 49ers and Jerry Rice, wasn't going to rip the Hall of Fame receiver even though Rice ripped into him.

Jacobs' admiration was put to the test this week when Rice offered an analysis of the Giants running back's running style that was not very flattering. Not one to travel the politically correct road, Jacobs did not allow his volcanic inner-self to erupt.

"I grew up a San Francisco 49ers fan,'' Jacobs said yesterday. "I've loved Jerry Rice, I still love Jerry Rice. I give him a lot of credit for the game being the way it is today. I have nothing negative to say about Jerry. If he feels that way, he feels that way.'"
