Kevin Keatts wasted little time filling out his first UNCW men’s basketball recruiting class.

Hours after landing the new staff got its first commitment, Jarvis Haywood, a shooting guard who led Jacksonville University in scoring this past season, announced via Twitter he will join the Seahawks. The 6-foot-4 Charlotte native will have to sit out next season per NCAA transfer rules and will then have two years of eligibility remaining.

Haywood had high-major interest from schools such as Cincinnati, N.C. State and Temple, according to an ESPN report. He joins point guards Malik Pugh and Jordon Talley as the Seahawks’ latest additions. Talley and Haywood were both on campus for official visits Thursday. It’s a good sign for the new staff to land pledges from a pair of players with plenty of options elsewhere on the same day, backing up Keatts’ reputation as a strong recruiter.

Barring any further movement, UNCW is at its maximum of 13 scholarship players for next season.
