"The 76ers' Allen Iverson has left the team once again to be with his 4-year-old daughter, who continues to be plagued by an undisclosed illness, and sources say he is unlikely to return.
Iverson missed the Sixers' last five games leading into the all-star break almost two weeks ago. Since returning Feb. 16 against the Miami Heat, Iverson has averaged just 8.0 points on 25.0 percent shooting from the floor (7 for 28) in 26.3 minutes a game. In the Sixers' one victory since his return, he played 23 minutes and shot 1 for 8 from the floor.
He will miss the remaining three games of the current road trip. The Sixers visit the Golden State Warriors tonight before heading to Phoenix to face the Suns tomorrow and to Los Angeles to play the Lakers on Friday. The Sixers' next home game is March 1 vs. the Orlando Magic.
"At this time, we feel that is in the best interest of the Sixers, Allen and his family that he be allowed to deal with a very serious issue that is far greater than the game of basketball," said team president and general manager Ed Stefanski."
