"Andre Miller had been so bad the last three games, there were those who wondered if the veteran point guard ought to go back to the Trail Blazer bench.
Good thing he didn't. Miller had the game of his 11-year NBA career Saturday night, going for 52 points to carry Portland to a 114-112 overtime victory over Dallas.
The win snapped a three-game losing streak for the Blazers (28-21), and pushed them to 2-0 against the Mavericks this season at American Airlines Center after losing their previous 11 visits to the building. Portland had lost 104-100 at Houston on Friday night.
Miller's outburst tied for the second-best scoring output in Portland's 40-year history, matching Brandon Roy's total against Phoenix in December 2008 and behind only Damon Stoudamire's 54 against New Orleans in January 2005.
"That's a good thing, but it's even better to get the win," Miller said. "That's all that matters."
Miller's previous career high was 37 points, achieved twice - for Philadelphia in 2007 and for Cleveland in 2001.
"I played bad the last three games after the long (four-game) road trip," said Miller, who turns 34 on March 19. "I was a little bit tired. Had to dig deep.
"We talked about not losing four games in a row. It was a good effort by everybody."
In his previous three outings, Miller had made a collective 4 of 25 shots and averaged 5.7 points."
