"David Wright may be living in a dream world, but he said he expects the Mets to keep both him and Jose Reyes.
It's ironic, of course, that this season Wright is the one injured while Reyes is tearing it up.
"Jose's been spectacular," Wright told The Post. "There's nothing in the game that he can't do."
Wright wants to stay with the Mets. He wants Reyes to stay with the Mets. It's that simple.
"That's the plan," Wright said. "Jose is doing everything he can do prove he does what he does best and hopefully we build in the right direction."
Whether Mets ownership follows that plan remains to be seen, but Wright knows talent and he's getting the chance to appreciate Reyes' ability as a teammate and as a fan.
"Jose has done a terrific job in making things happen, whether it's getting on base, putting himself in scoring position, driving in runs, stealing bases," said Wright, who remains out of action with a stress fracture in his lower back. "He's been a one-man wrecking crew."
Wright, though, is not surprised by any of this. A student of the game, he knows that Reyes is an MVP-caliber player.
"I'm used to these type of things from him," Wright said. "When he's healthy, this is what he does. It's another day at the office."
Not being able to man his "office" at third base is driving Wright a little crazy. He has been on the disabled list since May 18 and he will have a key examination this week to see how well the bone is healing and when he can get back to baseball activities."
