New York Islanders captain John Tavares will miss the rest of the NHL season after suffering a knee injury during Team Canada’s quarterfinal win over Latvia on Wednesday.

According to Newsday’s Arthur Staple, a post-game MRI revealed the 23-year-old suffered a torn MCL and torn meniscus after being checked awkwardly into the corner boards by Latvia’s Arturs Kulda.

He remained briefly on the bench but seemed to be favouring his left leg and hip area.
