"Veteran center Doug Weight only played in 18 games last season due to a back injury, scoring two goals and notching seven assists. The New York Islanders captain hasn't actually appeared in a game since mid-November and it's looking like that may have been the last appearance of his career.

New York Newsday has it that the Islanders have scheduled a news conference on Thursday where the 40-year-old "will announce his decision on the future of his NHL playing career." The paper believes Weight will announce his retirement and that he is taking a position with the team."
