"Plaxico Burress landing with the Eagles is not a particularly new or surprising theory. It just picked up a whole lot more steam with Burress' subtle fashion statement upon his release from prison on Monday following a total miscarriage of justice that took two years off his career at considerable expense to taxpayers.
But enough of that email-generating thought for now. The technology to change the past is not thought to have been discovered yet.
The real focus here is on Plax's future, particularly the potential of the Phillies cap-wearing wide receiver next playing for the Eagles.
Can it happen? Absolutely.
The Eagles will be among many teams with the means and the interest to add the 6-foot-5, 230-pounder to a roster that would benefit from his red-zone abilities. The guy has caught a few touchdown passes in his career — 55 to be precise. That's 15 more than the Eagles' top three at that position combined.
Should it happen? Maybe.
Consider how the Eagles' 2010 season ended, with rookie receiver Riley Cooper failing to take the appropriate action on Green Bay Packers cornerback Tramon Williams on an underthrown pass by Michael Vick that Williams intercepted in the end zone.
Burress might have had to commit a penalty there, but no way would he have allowed the first-down turnover that preserved the Packers' 21-16 playoff victory, launching them on their way toward the Super Bowl and another Lombardi Trophy that could have just as easily gone to the Eagles if they had advanced that day.
On the other hand, no way do the Eagles need the drama that Plax has brought with him at every career turn.
Even without a gun, he's proved to be half a menace to society, with a history of domestic disturbances, temporary restraining orders and lawsuits filed against him. There's also been an unhealthy number of contract squabbles.
Will it happen? Probably, at least according to one international oddsmaker.
Bodog Gaming lists the Eagles as 3-to-2 favorites to acquire his services. The New York Jets are next at 3-to-1, followed by the St. Louis Rams at 11-to-2."
