Inter Milan will try once more to prise Pablo Osvaldo away from Southampton, offering Fredy Guarin as part of the deal.

Despite denying interest in Osvaldo the Italians remain keen on the 27-year-old who has struggled to settle after leaving Roma in the summer.

Inter need a striker as they look to claw their way back into contention to qualify for Europe after a poor Serie A campaign so far.

Guarin has been offered to Chelsea and a £12.5million transfer was discussed for the Colombian. Demba Ba was also mentioned as a makeweight but Inter would prefer Osvaldo.

Saints boss Mauricio Pochettino knows West Ham are keen on Rickie Lambert while Manchester United and Chelsea admire defender Luke Shaw.

But Pochettino said on Thursday: 'There is a lot of smoke surrounding Osvaldo, but he is very happy here and has been training very well. He has a contract here and is expecting the birth of his son. He is expecting his son to grow up in England.
