"The Ducks skipped practice Thursday after playing on back-to-back nights, but they could be taking the time away from the rink to make some decisions on Ryan Getzlaf after the center re-injured his sprained left ankle in Wednesday night's 4-1 loss to the Vancouver Canucks.
Getzlaf suffered another blow to the ankle that he originally hurt Feb. 8 when Vancouver's Henrik Sedin fell on it during the second period. The Ducks' leading scorer skated off the ice and came back for several more shifts but did not play in the third period.
Following the loss, Getzlaf said he wanted to see how the ankle reacted this morning and considered himself day-to-day with his status for Friday's game against the Edmonton Oilers.
But with the Ducks all but eliminated from the playoff picture, Getzlaf acknowledged that he would meet with General Manager Bob Murray and trainer Tim Clark to see whether it would be better to stay off the ice for a while.
"We'll see how it goes," Getzlaf said. "It doesn't affect my decision. Obviously we're going to talk with Clarkie and Murph and see what the situation calls for right now. Obviously the health is the main thing and getting it better. Making sure this isn't an ongoing thing over the summer and all that kind of stuff.""
