Injury bug puts Flames roster in limbo

"Two come off, two go on. It seems the Calgary Flames aren't about to make any headway with their injury list as the last game of the pre-season rolls in and the first game of the National Hockey League regular season approaches.

Of course, the addition of another centre to the "indefinite" list should come as no surprise with three already in that fort.

David Moss, who was asked to return to his old college role of pivot at the start of this training camp, was officially listed as being out for an indefinite period of time with an unspecified shoulder injury suffered during Friday's wicked Battle of Alberta at Edmonton against the Oilers.

Linemate Ales Kotalik, who had been strutting his A game this camp, is also listed as indefinite after suffering a knee injury not too long after Moss was sidelined.

They join centres Daymond Langkow (neck), Matt Stajan (separated shoulder) and Ryan Stone (knee) in injury bay. All are unlikely to be available for Thursday's regular-season opener, a third straight joust with the Oilers.

The good news is that No. 1 centre Olli Jokinen (back) and No. 2 line winger Rene Bourque (unspecified) have come off the "day-to-day" list and will either be available for tonight's pre-season finale at the Pengrowth Saddledome against the Oilers or definitely for the season opener.

The run of injuries also means one or two or even three of the remaining group of prospects could be sticking around through Monday's roster deadline, when NHL teams must declare a 23-man lineup (not including injury list).

Jokinen's return once again gives the Flames four centres, with rookies Mikael Backlund and Stefan Meyer joining veteran Craig Conroy."
