"The mounting injury total is starting to frustrate Milwaukee Bucks coach Scott Skiles.
With the calendar ticking down until the team's regular-season opener on Oct. 27 - just 15 days away - Skiles is wondering what his team will look like when it takes the court that night in New Orleans.
Center Andrew Bogut (right hand, wrist and elbow) has yet to play in an exhibition game, although he said Monday he hopes to play either at Memphis on Saturday or against Minnesota on Sunday in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Guard John Salmons still has not been able to practice with the team due to a sprained right knee. Forward Corey Maggette (off-season ankle surgery) completed his first full practice on Monday at the Cousins Center.
Add to that list more recent injuries suffered by Carlos Delfino (right big toe), Jon Brockman (left ankle) and Larry Sanders (left ankle), and there was reason for Skiles to be showing concern after practice.
The Bucks had only 10 players available for the session, and the only projected starters were point guard Brandon Jennings and power forward Drew Gooden.
"We've got a long way to go," Skiles said. "First of all, we've got to get healthy. But we've got to play much better than we've played so far if we're going to attempt to win a regular-season game.
"We're having too many breakdowns on both ends of the floor."
Skiles expressed some frustration with what the team can accomplish in practice this week given all the missing players.
Bucks fans will be able to attend a special "preview practice," which starts at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Bradley Center, and admission is free, with a pre-practice party beginning at 5:30. The Bucks will not have a separate session in the morning at the Cousins Center.
"It's important for the fans to come out and see the guys, get close to them and get autographs from them, speak to them a little bit," Skiles said. "That's all very important for the franchise. But it's not an ideal practice day for us, that's for sure.
"And we need practice right now."
The Bucks resume exhibition play on Thursday at Washington, followed by weekend games against the Grizzlies and Timberwolves."
