"The Warriors didn't make a move at Thursday's trade deadline, but a new face has emerged in the locker room nonetheless.
"He said good luck to me at halftime, and I really didn't know who he was," guard C.J. Watson said. "I thought he was a coach or a scout or something. That was the first time I had seen him."
The mystery man is Raja Bell.
He had wrist surgery Dec. 3 and remained in his hometown Miami until flying into Oakland before Wednesday's game. Though Bell probably won't be able to play until April, the Warriors are hoping he can provide the team a boost while wearing street clothes.
Bell, who is in his 10th season, has made a career out of seeing the finer points of the game and using those to overachieve.
"He can have an impact of another voice of experience, because he's a vocal and positive person," general manager Larry Riley said.
"I've never been afraid to speak my mind and say what I see," Bell said. "I've always kind of been the underdog guy, and that spirit has been drilled in me since I was young. A team like this would be a great fit for me."
Bell said he has about six weeks of rehabilitation to do on his left wrist, putting him back in uniform for the eight games in April."
