How many players in the NHL can take on two defensemen by himself and then rifle a shot past a goaltender who has been almost unbeatable all night?

"Not many guys," Dainius Zubrus said. "Definitely."

Ilya Kovalchuk can. And did Thursday night.

When he scored with 23.2 seconds remaining in overtime for a 2-1 victory, it was his third OT goal of the season.

"You could tell he got some steam right off the bat when he picked up the puck," Zubrus said.

The goal gave Jacques Lemaire his 600th career win.

"I wasn't pleased in the second (period) but it was good when Kovy scored at the end," Lemaire said.

"He's got a great shot. That's why every time he goes on the ice we say, 'Shoot the puck.' "
