"So Matt Cassel is injured , and the Big 12 wishes it were only injured , but if you'll pardon me this post is about Zack Greinke.
The column in Sunday's paper focused mainly on his pitching for a playoff-bound team, the season he's always wanted, and the not insignificant adjustment to a new place, and of course the idea that both Zack and Royals officials have pondered and simply will not go away until there's a resolution: would he re-sign with the Royals when his current contract is up after next season?
Here's what Zack said about that last week in Milwaukee:
But it's actually the line before that quote in the column that you might pay attention to, when Zack said he's not sure if the Royals would want him back.
It wasn't quite a bitter separation between Zack and the Royals, but there were sore feelings on both sides. Zack has said he felt misled about what the Royals were trying to do when he signed an extension before the 2009 season, and sources around the Royals have said they think he quit on the team midway through the 2010 season.
Those issues would have to be resolved, and if Zack's (and his wife's) comfort in Kansas City would give the Royals an advantage, these are the things that would complicate a reunion."
