You can understand how Terry Collins would be tempted to utilize R.A. Dickey on three days' rest, something he admitted Tuesday that he seriously considered as far back as a month ago. At this point, Dickey's brilliant season should be dictating the thinking of the entire Mets' organization.

That doesn't mean throwing him on short rest this early in the season. Collins is right not to mess with Dickey's dominance, and you can't forget that, knuckleball or not, he's no kid at age 37. But what it does mean is the Mets front office has to start thinking more aggressively as trading season approaches. If Dickey is going to have a magical season, who knows how far that could lift these Mets in a National League East that could very well be there for the taking.
