"While sources say that the New York Yankees haven't made an offer to Cliff Lee yet, Texas second baseman Ian Kinsler said Wednesday that the free-agent pitcher told him via text message that he had met with Rangers officials in his home state of Arkansas on Tuesday.
"Basically, I said, 'What's going on in Arkansas?' [Lee] said, 'the Rangers are down here again,'" Kinsler told the "Ben & Skin Show" on ESPN 103.3 FM in Dallas. "I was like, 'Well, just sign whatever they give you.' He said, 'Let's see what happens. We have to wait it out.'
"I said, 'Remember, I like being your teammate.' And he said, 'I do, too, but we have to wait it out.' I said, 'Just sign it.' And then he sent me a picture of a deer [that a friend had bagged on his property]."
This comes after a baseball source with inside knowledge of the Lee situation told ESPNNewYork.com on Wednesday that a New York Post report that the Rangers are readying an offer for Lee and aren't afraid to go to five years to compete with the Yankees isn't accurate.
"Nothing's happening there yet," said the source, who insisted on anonymity because of his active involvement in the Lee chase. "It sounds like a lot of BS being put out by the agent.""
