The Orlando Magic and their general manager, Rob Hennigan, face a critical season.

The franchise has not posted a winning record or reached the playoffs since it traded Dwight Howard four years ago. The team also has endured significant turnover with its head coaches. Jacque Vaughn was fired after two and a half seasons; Scott Skiles, hired in May 2015, quit after just one season. This offseason, the team hired Frank Vogel, a coach who guided the Indiana Pacers to two Eastern Conference finals appearances.

The Magic overhauled their roster in recent months. The franchise will return just six players from last season’s team, and it added power forward Serge Ibaka via a trade and center Bismack Biyombo in free agency.
