Hull manager Steve Bruce has joined the race for Everton striker Nikica Jelavic after growing frustrated in his pursuit of Shane Long and Steven Fletcher.

Bruce is eager to bring in a goalscorer to bolster Hull's upturn in form. Sunderland have priced Fletcher out of his reach and West Bromwich Albion striker Long is ready to stay in the Midlands.

Jelavic is wanted by Crystal Palace and West Ham also with Sam Allardyce's side the player's preference while QPR, who made an initial £3.5million offer, are now out of the running.

West Ham though are reluctant to pay the £4.5million asking price as they continue to look for loans.

Bruce, who has also considered Filip Djordjevic of Nantes and Georgios Samaras at Celtic, does have £5m to spend on a striker and has asked other managers for an opinion on Jelavic as he prepares his move.

Everton want a replacement in before they let Jelavic go and are weighing up various targets.
