"Browns President Mike Holmgren said "there's a good chance" the team will meet with the agents of Derek Anderson here at the NFL Combine and acknowledged that the decision on the quarterback is huge.
A key date is March 19, when Anderson's $2 million roster bonus is due. He also has a $7.45 million base salary for 2010, which means they'll probably either release him or try to restructure his contract if he's not the starter. The salary is not guaranteed.
A lot could happen before then, with the free agency and trading period opening March 5. It's unlikely that a team would trade for Anderson at his current salary, meaning a release or restructuring is more likely.
Holmgren said nothing has been scheduled with Anderson's reps yet, but "everyone is here, so yes, we'll try to meet with them."
Holmgren has said the Browns haven't made a decision yet on whether they have their starter on the roster. Likewise, they haven't decided between Brady Quinn and Anderson. He said he's leaving all of his possibilities open, including a trade, signing a free agent, drafting a quarterback or going with one of the two on the roster.
Holmgren on Cribbs: Holmgren confirmed reports that the team is moving closer to a new deal for Josh Cribbs. "We're having good conversations going back and forth," he said. "There's a real healthy dialogue. It might be ambitious to say it will be done by the end of the week. Of course, I'd like it to be done by the end of the week." The Browns and Cribbs' agents are meeting in Indy this week."
