"Ryan Howard isn't quite sure what happened to his right hand, but as Wednesday's game wore on, he knew something wasn't right.

Howard shook his hand after a sixth-inning at-bat, then chatted with team trainers in the late innings, but never left the game, even delivering an eighth-inning single, but he said the soreness in his hand never dissipated.

"It was definitely there in my last at-bat, but I was just trying to keep playing," he said.

Howard said he thinks he hurt it on a swing when he was jammed inside, but beyond that he offered little insight into the severity of the injury."
