Because of on-going negotiations regarding a trade, reportedly that could send backup shooting guard Marcus Thornton to Sacramento, the New Orleans Hornets told Thornton not to attend Wednesday's shoot-around at New Orleans Arena.

"The trade is pending; nothing has been finalized," Hornets Coach Monty Williams said. "So we just decided it would be best not for him to come to the arena so he wouldn't have to be subjected to this (media questioning)."

The Hornets are reportedly sending Thornton to the Kings for reserve power forward Carl Landry, but Williams, by league rule, is forbidden to speak about trades that have not yet been consummated.

"It would be irresponsible of me to even go there because it hasn't happened yet," Williams said.

Thornton, reached by telephone Wednesday morning, said he hasn't been informed he's been traded yet.
