For the bulk of the first half of the NHL season, Mark Giordano has been the Calgary Flames player most worth watching.

As Team Canada assistant coach Ken Hitchcock explained Wednesday, ol’ Gio’s viewership is about to increase exponentially as Olympic team officials are going to be watching his every move.

“It’s not just, ‘Hey, here’s your 25 guys’ and our work is done. Now, management is going to pour into arenas and watch those bubble guys like (Giordano),” Hitchcock said. “There are probably eight or 10 bubble guys identified in case there’s an injury, and he’s one of those guys who is really emerging.

“It’s too bad he was hurt, but he’s climbing the ladder,” Hitchcock continued. “He’s in a unique position where he’s a left shot and plays every situation, so, yeah, he’s a guy everybody is going to be watching every game.”
