Hit on Collins draws fine

"James Farrior avoided a penalty but not a fine for his late hit on Indianapolis Colts quarterback Kerry Collins in Sunday night's game.

The NFL fined the Pittsburgh Steelers outside linebacker $15,000 for "roughing the passer," according to a league spokesman. "Specifically, on a pass play, he struck the opposing quarterback in the head and neck area.''

It's believed Farrior's third-quarter hit resulted in Collins developing concussionlike symptoms that forced him from the game in the fourth period. Those symptoms have persisted, and Collins will be replaced by Curtis Painter when the Colts play Monday night at Tampa.

Farrior told Pittsburgh media he didn't agree with the discipline and will appeal.

"I don't think so, but the league saw it necessary to put the fine out there, so we just have to go with it," he said."
