" Most of the season has been a revolving door in net for the Ducks, with Jean-Sebastien Giguere and Jonas Hiller taking turns and neither really taking control in front of a mostly shaky defense.
But as the Ducks dig in for the second half of the season, they can see traces of stability in goal that they have sought since training camp.
Hiller has started seven of the past nine games for the Ducks. He has gone 6-3 in his last nine starts with a 2.26 goals-against average and .933 save percentage in that span.
Hiller isn't ready to stake his claim as the No.1 goalie, but for now he's certainly the best option for the club.
"I'm playing a lot, so that's a good sign," Hiller said. "I'm not thinking too much about No. 1 or No. 2 spot. Once I get the call, I just try to play as good as possible and I think it's worked out lately. I hope I can keep it going, but I also know I have to keep it going. (If not), it goes quick. I'm out of there again. I don't want that to happen."
Hiller made a case to stay in net when he stopped 38 of 39 shots and withstood four power plays against Detroit on Tuesday.
"He saw the puck well," Detroit winger and former Duck Drew Miller said after the game. "He made it hard for us."
Coach Randy Carlyle's philosophy of alternating hot goalies would seem to dictate that Hiller will be in net tonight against St. Louis, but Carlyle isn't yet sold on committing to one goalie."
