Hibbert, Granger lead Pacers to stunning win

"The list keeps growing for the Indiana Pacers.

First there was the Denver Nuggets. Then there was LeBron James and Co. in Miami. But the most impressive one came Sunday night against the back-to-back champion Los Angeles Lakers.

The Pacers got their first victory at Staples Center when they beat the Lakers 95-92 in front of a sellout crowd of 18,997 fans.

"A great win for us to beat the champions on their court," Pacers coach Jim O'Brien said. "We've been playing well. This is a huge, huge win for us. It ranks right up there with our win at Miami."

The Pacers were 0-11 against the Lakers at the Staples Center prior to Sunday.

Roy Hibbert led the Pacers with 24 points and 12 rebounds. Danny Granger had 18 points.

What has made the Pacers' victories over the Heat and Lakers more impressive is that they came on the road.

"We're doing it with defense," Pacers swingman Mike Dunleavy said. "The biggest difference between this year and past seasons is that we're stopping people and not relying on our offense to carry us."

Kobe Bryant scored 41 points on 14-of-33 shooting.

"We know he's going to score," O'Brien said about Bryant. "I thought we did an exceptional job at running back at them. Our best chance on offense is to keep tempo."

The Lakers had two chances to tie the score, but Bryant missed two 3-pointers, including an air ball as time expired.

The Pacers held the Lakers to 38.6 percent shooting.

"It was a good statement win for us," Granger said. "Once again we hung our hats on our defense. It was a good win for us."

The Lakers got to within one when Pau Gasol made two free throws with 34.1 seconds remaining."
