"Perhaps as deliberate as any other effort this offseason, the Dolphins have been dead set on finding more ways to create big plays in 2011. They hired a new offensive coordinator. Schemed up a new playbook. Even traded for Reggie Bush.
On Friday, it started to pay off.
Unveiling for the first time a sliver of what this year's offense could look like with Bush and wide receiver Brandon Marshall together in the mix, Miami managed nine plays of 15 yards or more during the first half alone.
"We have good playmakers out there, and anytime you get a matchup 1-on-1 with them, you try to get it in their hands and let them do the rest of the work," quarterback Chad Henne said. "We spread the ball around pretty well, and that's what we need to do: keep the defense off balance, and give them a shot."
Coach Tony Sparano noted a good week of practice for Henne's success. But there's no denying the biggest difference between this week's 20-10 win against Carolina and last week's lackluster game against Atlanta: Star power.
Bush and Marshall, who both sat out against the Falcons, provided an immediate spark – and Henne made sure to take advantage of it. Each of the first four plays went to one of the two weapons."
