"Jason Spezza was asked Monday about the incident that saw Oilers winger Taylor Hall suffer a nasty cut when he was clipped by a teammate's skate in warmup.
Hall wasn't wearing a helmet, same as Spezza and other Senators during the warmup.
"I don't like wearing a helmet in warmup," said Spezza. "As a kid, I liked watching guys in warmups without a helmet ... it was just something I always wanted to do when I got to this level. You might get hurt, but it's a chance you take, I guess." Of the Hall incident, Spezza said: "It's just a freak thing, it doesn't happen very often. Knock on wood. You hope you don't (get injured). I've been hit with a puck before. I've shot one off the crossbar that came directly back at me, cut myself. I was like a deer in the headlights. You don't know where to go." Sure enough, in the warmup before the Kings game, a puck deflected off the glass and cut Spezza above the right eye. He was not seriously injured, however, and did play."
