"As a few reporters walked by Kellen Heard, the Buffalo Bills' defensive tackle asked to see some statistics and wondered why no one wanted to interview him.
He certainly had something to talk about after recording two of the Bills four sacks on the day -- the first of his career -- while adding a fumble recovery that was also a career first.
"It was bittersweet because I got two sacks but we lost," said Heard following the Bills 49-21 loss to New England on Sunday. "I don't like blowing leads because it's mental and a big psychological block you have to get passed. I want to win. It's frustrating. It's nice to get the sacks because it was the Patriots but I wanted to go to the playoffs. I don't like watching anyone play."
Heard probably won't be watching any team next season because with his play this season, he likely earned another year in Buffalo. An undrafted free agent from Memphis, Heard signed with Oakland in April 2010 but was waived by September and picked up by the Bills in December. He appeared in 15 games for the Bills this season, with two starts, and recorded 21 tackles, including 13 solos. The Bills like the 6-foot-6, 335-pounder because he's stout in the middle and they believe he's a capable rotational backup.
On Sunday, Heard rotated with tackles Dwan Edwards and Marcell Dareus and finished with five tackles and a hurry.
"We got good pressure from the outside early on [Tom] Brady so he was kind of timid so he was stepping up for me to get the sacks," Heard said. "It was a team effort so I can't complain.""
