Hawes out all weekend with Achilles' injury

"Spencer Hawes did not play in Friday night's game against the Atlanta Hawks at the Center and depending on what athletic trainer Kevin Johnson says, the Sixers' starting center will not travel with the team to Miami for Saturday night's game.

The idea, obviously, is for Hawes to get "around-the-clock treatment" according to head coach Doug Collins.

"We don't want to have any setbacks. He won't play [Saturday]," Collins said. "We have to be very careful about this. This is an injury that if you come back too soon, you're going to be right back to where you were."

Hawes missed a game last Wednesday in New York because of a lower back strain and missed another on Wednesday against the Nuggets because of a strained Achilles. Without Hawes the Sixers lost both games after posting a 10-2 record with him in the lineup.

When in the lineup, Hawes has been one of the most effective players for the Sixers. He is averaging 10.4 points, 8.8 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game, to go along with 1.7 blocks. His 58.8 field-goal percentage is the third best in the NBA this season."
