Joe Hart will continue his spell on the Manchester City bench for Tuesday’s Champions League game against CSKA Moscow after Manuel Pellegrini gave his backing to new No 1 Costel Pantilimon.
The Romanian was rarely troubled during City’s 7-0 slaughter of Norwich but impressed when he was called upon, notably producing a fine fingertip save to deny Anthony Pilkington. It left the City manager unwilling to speculate as to when Hart might return.
Pellegrini revealed the England goalkeeper was the first to congratulate Pantilimon after his clean sheet and he insisted the competition between the pair is healthy.

‘It’s not a problem,’ said Pellegrini. ‘For the moment we must support Costel Pantilimon. Joe made a lot of mistakes, he knows. So I think for Joe it is a good moment to stop. I am sure that working hard he will return to normal, but I don’t know when. I have confidence in Costel. If I don’t have trust in him I will change it.’
