Coach Jim Harbaugh said it’s a “high priority” for the 49ers to lock up quarterback Colin Kaepernick to a long-term contract extension.

Kaepernick, who is entering the final year of his original four-year contract, is eligible for a new contract this offseason. He is scheduled to earn $1.073 million in 2014. Backup quarterback Blaine Gabbert has a guaranteed contract of $2.011 million.

“Those things have a process that play out.,” Harbaugh said Monday at the NFL owners meetings. “The priority is Colin Kaepernick is a San Francisco 49er for however long we can have him be a San Francisco 49er. It’s definitely a high priority.”
