Frank Lampard will not make a decision about his England future until after the World Cup.

The 36-year-old midfielder has been handed the captaincy for Tuesday’s final Group D game against Costa Rica after England’s elimination was confirmed by last week’s defeat against Uruguay.

There has been speculation that Lampard could be facing a final appearance for his country, but he will not reveal his plans before the team returns from Brazil.

“I don’t know whether I will [retire] or not,” he said.

“I am going to get home and make a decision at that point because I have my own future to sort out as well.

“This is not the time and place to make the decision. Sometimes when you are away for a month you don’t always come up with the right judgement.”

Lampard has remained on the bench as Roy Hodgson's side bowed out in disappointing fashion with defeats against Italy and Uruguay.
