"Injured shortstop Hanley Ramirez will have surgery to correct instability in his left shoulder, the team announced Saturday night. Dr. Lee Kaplan, the Marlins' physician, made the recommendation after examining Ramirez earlier in the day.
No date has been set for surgery. The procedure should enable him to be ready for Opening Day next April in the new ballpark, the Marlins said.
Ramirez hasn't played since injuring the shoulder while diving for a popup in New York on Aug. 2. He began a rehab assignment last week at Class A Jupiter, but reinjured the shoulder Tuesday while swinging a bat in the on-deck circle. The shoulder reportedly popped out of joint again and Ramirez was in considerable pain."
